Our first big celebration honoring the grade level with the most reading entries for the 4 Months – 4,000 Book Reading Challenge took place today!
6th graders enjoyed an ice cream social for their hard work and efforts! More commendations coming as we make our way through the 4 month challenge!
Research confirms that the amount of reading done outside of school has consistently been found to relate to growth in vocabulary, reading comprehension, verbal fluency, and general information. Students who read independently become better readers, score higher on achievement tests in all subject areas, and have greater content knowledge than those who do not. (Anderson, Wilson, and Fielding 1988; Greaney 1980; Guthrie and Greaney 1991; Taylor, Frye, and Maruyama 1990).

¡El grado 6, disfruto de una reunión social con helado durante por su trabajo y esfuerzo! Tendremos más reconocimientos al continuar abriéndonos paso hacia el reto de los 4 meses!
Las investigaciones confirman que el tiempo que se lee fuera de la escuela, han encontrado consistentemente la relación del enriquecimiento del vocabulario, comprensión de lectura, fluidez verbal, e información general. Thank you Ms. Dara for promoting reading outside of school. I think kids need to hear it more from there teachers and principal on how important it is to read daily. My kids are tired of me telling them to read at home.
